White Lake LP has been mandated by our limited partner, the First Nation, to develop a highway commercial center, including retail fuel operations and a convenience store, among others, opening in late 2024. The new business will operate as a division of White Lake Limited Partnership under the name “Johnny K’s” and is expected to open in late 2024.
Reporting to the Director of Energy and Retail Services, the Assistant Manager Trainee will participate with responsibility and accountability for oversight of the operations of the business.
The principal responsibilities and accountabilities of the position are:
- Assist with the initial setup and start-up of the business
- Provide general assistance in the management and oversight of the retail and fuel business operations of WLLP
- Assist in the leading and managing of a team of approximately 8 at 1 location, including overseeing employee performance, training, and mentoring employees to improve performance over time
- Create and manage employee schedules, ensure all shifts are covered and adjust these schedules to accommodate employees when possible
- Receive and confirm supply orders
- Manage, secure and control inventories in order to minimize losses
- Train staff on business technology, point of sale and management systems
- Ensure that employee conduct standards are met at all times
- Ensure that safety protocols required for gas stations are followed at all times
- Ensure that security protocols, such as maintaining small amounts of cash on premises, are followed at all time
- Awareness and application of all relevant WLLP policies
- Maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, partners, suppliers, etc.
- Participate in various on-the-job and formal training as required to build the knowledge and competencies needed to succeed in the position
- A valid driver’s license and a reliable source of transportation
This is a working assistant manager position, meaning the successful candidate will be required to perform all regular staff duties including, but not limited to, cleaning of retail premises, sales, gas services, stock inventory, face shelfs, beginning and end of shift cash in/out processes.
Applicants should have 3-5 years of work experience in a retail/fuel or foodservice operation, ideally in a supervisory role. Training will be provided for individuals who possess the necessary personal skills, character and commitment to grow into the position. You will need to be extremely reliable, work well independently and as a member of a team, be capable of supervising people, and be committed to the highest standards of customer service. Other key competencies required are:

- Highly personable and works well with people
- Self-motivated and driven to achieve goals
- Good basic math skills (you will be handling cash)
- Previous management experience is an asset
- In good health and ability to do some lifting (e.g. unloading vehicles, moving boxes, stocking shelves, etc.)
- Ability to work irregular hours and weekends, including statutory holidays, according to the operating hours and needs of the business – this is not a Monday to Friday office job.
You must have a valid Class G drivers license – you must submit a copy of the front and back of your driver’s license with you application.
Skills upgrading will be provided to individuals who possess the core competencies and character but who would benefit from further skills training to succeed in the position.
The individuals will need to complete certain mandatory training and certifications as a condition of employment.
This position will work from our retail operation(s) in Mobert at the new Johnny K’s facility located on Highway 17, and as such the Assistant Manager must reside locally or within a reasonable easy daily commuting distance of the business premises – consistent attendance and availability to attend on the business premises on short notice is non-negotiable. You must have access to reliable transportation to/from work.
